Huawei has officially launched the Mate XT2 Ultimate Design in China on September 7, 2026. The successor to the original Mate XT sticks with the same tri-fold design, a screen that folds twice, while bringing significant upgrades to the chipset, build durability, camera system, and battery.
The Huawei Mate XT2 goes on sale in China starting September 12, 2026, priced from 19,999 yuan (roughly Rp 52.6 million) up to 29,999 yuan (around Rp 79 million).
Huawei Mate XT2 Specifications
When folded, the Mate XT2 features a 6.5-inch OLED LTPO display with 2,442 x 1,140 pixel resolution and an adaptive refresh rate of 1-120Hz.
Unfolded completely into its three-panel form, the display expands to 10.2 inches with a resolution of 2,232 x 3,184 pixels. The standard variant offers up to 90Hz refresh rate on its inner display, while the privacy screen variant supports up to 120Hz.
Despite having three distinct screen panels, the Mate XT2 maintains a thickness of just 3.5-4mm per section when unfolded. When fully folded, it measures 12.3mm thick and weighs approximately 299 grams.
Under the hood, Huawei uses the Kirin 9050 Pro chipset, paired with 16GB of RAM and storage options ranging from 256GB up to 2TB. The device runs on HarmonyOS 7.0.
Built to Take a Hit
Huawei has also significantly improved the device’s durability. The outer display uses Kunlun Glass, while the flexible inner display uses UTG (Ultra Thin Glass). Huawei claims the outer screen’s drop resistance has improved by up to 30 times, inner screen impact resistance has increased by 200%, and hinge durability has improved by 90% compared to the previous generation. The Mate XT2 also carries both IP58 and IP59 certifications for dust and water resistance.
Camera System
On the back, the Mate XT2 features a 50MP RYYB main camera with a 1/1.28-inch sensor, OIS, and a variable aperture ranging from f/1.49 to f/4.0.
That’s paired with a 40MP ultrawide camera and a 50MP periscope telephoto lens at f/2.2 with OIS. Huawei has also incorporated its third-generation Red Maple color technology to improve photo color accuracy and reproduction.
Battery and Charging
The Mate XT2 packs a 5,600mAh battery, supporting 66W wired charging and up to 50W wireless charging. The device also supports reverse wireless charging, letting it charge other compatible devices.
A Built-In Health Feature: EKG Monitoring
One particularly interesting addition is the Mate XT2’s EKG feature. Users simply unfold the display and hold both sides of the frame for about 30 seconds to record their heart’s electrical signal and generate an electrocardiogram report, bringing genuine health-monitoring hardware into a foldable flagship.
Timing and Market Context
Huawei’s launch lands just two days ahead of Apple’s own event on September 9, adding an extra layer of competitive tension to the timing. According to Reuters, Huawei currently commands roughly 68% of China’s foldable phone market as of Q2 2026, meaning this new tri-fold generation is likely to further intensify competition in the premium foldable segment.

Huawei is offering the Mate XT2 across several configurations, with official pricing as follows:
- 16GB + 256GB: 19,999 yuan (approximately Rp 52.7 million)
- 16GB + 512GB: 21,999 yuan (approximately Rp 58 million)
- 16GB + 1TB: 23,999 yuan (approximately Rp 63.2 million)
- 16GB + 1TB Privacy Screen: 24,999 yuan (approximately Rp 65.9 million)
- 16GB + 2TB Special Edition + Stylus: 29,999 yuan (approximately Rp 79 million)
- M-Pen 3 Mini Stylus Set: 1,199 yuan (approximately Rp 3.2 million)

First sales begin in China on September 12, 2026. Huawei has not yet announced whether the Mate XT2 will be released globally.
With a durability overhaul, a genuinely capable triple-camera setup, and an unexpected health-monitoring feature baked directly into the hardware, the Mate XT2 looks like Huawei doubling down on its dominance in the foldable space rather than just iterating for the sake of it. Whether it ever makes it beyond China remains an open question, but for now, it’s setting a high bar for what a tri-fold flagship can actually deliver.
